Home Improvement

New fence coming up this week. Plus, our bathroom will be fixed. Yay! No more leaking.

I don’t like it when something from my surroundings, while I’m sleeping/sleepy, make it into my dreams. It always ends up being crazy.

Last night I heard our tenant talking on the phone, at 5am, to an ex out on his patio. I was listening because, hey, he woke me up. Apparently, this chick keeps calling him. Even though, she is the one who did him wrong. Way to stand up for yourself, buddy.

I am a very light sleeper. I mean anything can wake me up. It’s a curse and a blessing. Eventually, he went back in his house. I went back to sleep- only to dream of him.

Get your head out of the gutter. Nothing like that.

It’s just that he’s the last person I would want to dream of.

I knew I was a bookworm/avid reader when I used to spend my teenage summers reading. I would read a book within 3 days and then make a trip to the library for more.
I am a true Aquarius- day dreamer. I love love love living through the characters.
I didn’t pick up reading again until after college and with a traveling occupation. The books kept me entertained at airports and in planes. I didn’t know what my genre was when I started again. So I started on the New York Times Bestseller list. Not a bad way to start. Then for about a few months I got into chick lit. I quickly got over that.
Then one day my sister-in-law mentioned Twilight. Yeah, I laughed at her. She told me the plot and I didn’t get it. Then I heard the buzz about the movie and so on. Figured, why not?
I’m tired of NYT Bestseller list books. So I picked up a paperback. Granted, I didn’t know paranormal/urban fantasy books at the time. So, yeah, that series was “da bomb”.
Then I started researching via Amazon for other similar books. Lo and behold,t here’s a whole other universe out there with this genre. It also showed me how horrible the Twilight series is.  A lot of the good ones are self published. Which is great because they probably never would have been published (due to too many out there). Glad these authors have a chance to because they got me to enjoy reading agail.
I looked at my Kindle account (which I started on July 2011) and wanted to see how many I’ve read since downloading the app.
Counting the one I just downloaded 5 mins ago, I have 50 books. Out of the 50 books, I read 47 in 8 months. That’s 5.875 books a month. I was a bit surprised. I didn’t realize I read so many.
I can’t seem to stop, either. The fact that most of the books I read are $3.99 or less make it easier for me push “Purchase”. Sometimes I’ll spend $9.99, when I know it’s worth it. Luckily, I find great books at cheaper cost. If only hardbacks were at low in price. Hardbacks look way better on bookshelves.
How the heck am I supposed to complete my personal library?

I got ripped a new one.

I check my bank account online every other day. I just want to make sure my money goes where it needs to. It’s been a habit of mine since early college days. I was living penny to penny. I needed to make sure I didn’t overdraft. If you do, you get charged up the ass. I used to get charged $30/overdraft. Seriously? That’s what I call, “Getting ripped a new one”.

Yesterday morning I checked my account. Low and behold, I got ripped.

When Monster was born, we needed a nanny. I used the website Sittercity.com. Prices were reasonable. So I enrolled. Of course, every year you get to renew—- automatically. That’s where I keep forgetting to adjust my account.

Sometime between enrollment and yesterday, prices went up. I mean up.

Yesterday was my one year automatic renewal. How would I remember? No worries, they reminded for me by charging my acct. That’s the thing about membership fees. I tend to forget about it within a few weeks or month.

I’ve slowly cancelled my memberships on various sites. This is the last one. I adjusted my membership to “Do not automatically enroll”. This should be the last ripping I get.

Not unless there’s one or two more sites I’ve forgotten about?

Self appointed crime watcher

About a week ago, a house across the street from us got burglarized. This occurred roughly one to two months after another house- across the street, few doors down- got broken into. The latter, luckily, the thief was spooked when the owner screamed.

Ever since that week, husband and I have been on the look out. We are always checking our surroundings and eyeing any suspicious activity.

My office is in the front of the house, with three windows looking out the front. I see my yard, the street and any passerby (cars, dogs and people).

I’ve come to learn a few folks that come by. I have even learned of a car that swings by.

What’s funny about the car is that the guy never leaves his car. His car is either parked in front of my house or next. He parks then sits. I have yet, though, to see him leave. I usually end up doing something else and by the time I remember him, he is gone.

I should do what he does. Sit and watch him. “I’m watching you”.

I actually thought about knocking on his window today and asking him what he is doing. That I see him almost everday doing the same thing—- sitting.

Maybe once our fence is up, I can sleep better. Both homes that got burglarized didn’t have fences.

“Behind every great man is a great woman”

Ok.

What if the woman had to deal with so much in order to support the man? I feel she is overlooked, even though she has a harder job.

My choice

If I had a choice, I would have a room of bookshelves. A library of my own filled with my urban fantasy, science fiction books. Yes, even YA books.

If I had that, I would return to buying actual books. At the moment I have been e-reading. It is a dangerous hobby. I mainly read off my iphone because it is always with me.

The way I hold it when reading caused my thumb to ache. To the point where it hurt to pick up Monster. Ouch!

House update

Home updates? Where is it? It won’t be coming until mid-March. Father-in-law was kind/gracious enough to buy us a fence for our front yard. Yay!

Safer for monster to play. He can ride is 2mph ATV anywhere, anytime. Well, anytime when mommy feels like being outside. *As we all know, I’m not an outside person. At least not in Texas.

When they start to on the fence, I’ll have home improvement posts. We did get a new pool pump. That bitch cost us 1k. OMG.

I’m sure our friends will take advantage of the pool. So gotta keep it clean. Plus, monster will be going to swimming lessons this summer. It’s always about the kid, isn’t?
